Father of everlasting compassion, you see your children growing up in an uncertain and confusing world……

There is a beautiful prayer for our children and youngsters in the Anglican prayer book that reads as follows, “Father of everlasting compassion, you see your children growing up in an uncertain and confusing world: show them the path of life, enable them to triumph over failure and frustration, to hold fast their faith in you and to keep alive their joy in your creation, through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

This prayer was written 32 years ago, and it seems as though the times and uncertainty of this world is more confusing than ever. Young people and children are continually faced with so many pressures, failures, and frustrations that they did not ask for.

As the Anglican church it is our duty to ensure that our youngsters grow in a church environment that is different from this confusing world. It is our duty to create the atmosphere that they belong somewhere and that they can and will triumph over confusion, failure, and frustration. Our chapelry St Monica’s in Kwanokhuthula have made this possible for our youth. Although our youth face many challenges, the Servers Guild together with its leaders of this organization is an example, that children and youngsters do have a place in this confusing world. We applaud them for making a small difference in the lives of our youngsters.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the church and its mission to equip and encourage the ministry of all believers whether young or old should continue. The youth of the Parish of Formosa had the opportunity to meet and greet on the 15th of May 2021 at St Chad’s Harkerville and the children had a blast!! COVID-19 protocols were strictly observed. Although times are different and we do only what we are permitted we move forward like Christian soldiers.

Children, after all, are not just adults-in-the-making. They are people whose current needs and rights and experiences must be taken seriously. — Alfie Kohn
